A malware attack was detected by the cyber security team of the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) on Tuesday afternoon. The attack was later thwarted and neutralised by the team. This comes six months after the major cyber attack which disrupted services for patients at AIIMS
Previously, AIIMS Delhi was attacked by a ransomware variant in mid-2022 which led to the shutdown of several crucial systems including patient records, hospital management systems and research data repositories. The attack encrypted the organization’s data and demanded a ransom for its release. In November 2022, there was another ransomware attack on the database of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) affecting its operations significantly leading to the hospital running in manual mode for weeks. The attack was later attributed to a ransomware variant and it is unclear who was behind the attack.
