OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which is an AI based chatbot has taken over the world in a very short period. It's due to its intelligent data process ability which can give relevant answers to almost everything you are looking for.
ChatGPT is nowadays popular among individual as well as organizations in carrying out content related search, learning, training and more. Given its popularity, cybercriminals are also attempting to exploit ChatGPT in different ways possible for e.g., develop malware. As per hackread, there are also fake ChatGPT apps now being created to lure victim into sharing sensitive data.
Other phishing scam features fake ChatGPT version as per Cybersecurity vendor Bitdefender researchers in which cybercriminals are redirecting unsuspecting users to a fake ChatGPT version through a scam email containing a link to ChatGPT, which is fake. Upon accessing the link in the email, users are directed to a copycat version of ChatGPT luring users with financial opportunities that pay up to $10,000 per month “on the unique ChatGPT platform.”
Recommendation
Phishing and scams are old techniques which cybercriminals have been using. The message content is variable based on what's more likely to lure the victims. Hence, the general recommendation is to not follow links you receive via unsolicited correspondence and do not share sensitive data till you trust the recipient.
