There was a recent data breach of Aadhar cards. According to a report by Resecurity, a US-based cybersecurity company, on October 9, 2023, a threat actor going by the alias ‘pwn0001’ posted a thread on ‘Breach Forums’, brokering access to 815 million (81.5 crore) Indian Citizen Aadhaar & Passport records. However, according to independent cybersecurity researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia, there might be data of a few lakh people compromised, and no evidence shows that the data of 81.5 crore people leaked.
The hacker claims to have extracted the information from the Covid-19 test details of the citizens registered with ICMR.
